Opening remarks[edit | edit source]
Teaching methods at school seem to have changed since my day. My daughter Caroline proudly informs me that the telephone was invented by Charles Dickens. It's eighty quid a term too. Well I mean in my day it was invented by a chap called Edison Lighthouse. But, whoever invented the beastly thing, it never seems to bring good news to Captain Povey in the squadron office.
